🦴 Back & Spine

The single most common reason patients walk into Vanguard Chiropractic. Mechanical back pain responds extremely well to chiropractic adjustment, pin-and-stretch soft tissue work, and targeted exercise. We treat everything from acute muscle spasms to chronic disc complaints. At $40 per visit, with no long-term plan required. Below: every back- and spine-related condition page on this site.

⚡ Sciatica, Nerve Pain & Numbness

Sciatica is not a diagnosis on its own. It's a symptom of an underlying mechanical problem. True sciatica is pain running down the back of the leg from irritation of the L5 or S1 nerve root, usually caused by disc bulge, narrowing of the foramen, or piriformis compression. Each of these responds to a different treatment plan. Our approach starts with identifying which structure is irritating the nerve.

Numbness & Tingling

Cervical Radiculopathy

Pinched Nerve

🧠 Neck, TMJ & Whiplash

Neck dysfunction rarely stays in the neck. Cervical spine restriction commonly refers pain to the shoulders, arms, and head, and is strongly linked to tension-type headaches, jaw dysfunction, and vestibular symptoms like vertigo. We treat the full cervical complex including upper-cervical, mid-cervical, and the cervicothoracic junction.

Text Neck Syndrome

Chronic cervical flexion from devices.

Cervical Radiculopathy

Nerve root compression from the neck.

💢 Headaches & Migraines

The overwhelming majority of "migraines" walking into a chiropractor's office are actually cervicogenic or tension-type headaches driven by upper-cervical restriction, trapezius trigger points, and suboccipital tension. The differential matters because treatment does: true migraine is a neurovascular event with distinct triggers, while cervicogenic headaches respond dramatically to cervical manipulation and soft-tissue work.

What the research actually says.

💪 Shoulder, Arm & Hand

Upper-extremity pain rarely originates where the patient feels it. Most shoulder pain involves the cervicothoracic junction, first rib, and scapular mechanics. Carpal tunnel symptoms often trace back to the cervical nerve roots (double-crush phenomenon) rather than the wrist alone. We work the full kinetic chain.

Shoulder Pain

Rotator cuff, impingement, and joint dysfunction.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Wrist and forearm nerve compression.

Rib Pain

Costochondral and rib-head dysfunction.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Compression of neurovascular structures.

Elbow Pain

Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, referred pain.

Frozen Shoulder

Adhesive capsulitis management.

🦵 Hip, Knee & Foot

Lower-extremity pain is frequently biomechanical in origin. What the patient feels as knee pain is often a hip or ankle dysfunction expressing itself higher or lower in the kinetic chain. Plantar fasciitis, in particular, often resolves once we restore ankle dorsiflexion and tibial rotation that were silently compensating for a lumbar restriction.

Hip Pain

Hip joint and surrounding muscle dysfunction.

Knee Pain

Patellofemoral and ligament complaints.

Plantar Fasciitis

Heel pain and foot mechanics.

🤰 Prenatal, Postpartum & Pediatric

Dr. Forward treats pregnant patients through all trimesters using pelvic balancing and sacral techniques (not Webster certified, we use different specific techniques). Postpartum cases focus on restoring pelvic alignment, diastasis-adjacent complaints, and upper-back strain from nursing posture. Pediatric work includes all ages, including newborns, with parent-guided gentle pressure appropriate to the child.

Pelvic balancing throughout pregnancy.

Postpartum Recovery

Pediatric Chiropractic

Children of all ages, including newborns.

🏃 Sports Injuries & Active Lifestyle

Dr. Forward trains at CrossFit Jenks and understands the specific mechanical demands of high-intensity training, endurance sports, and recreational athletics. Injuries at Vanguard Chiropractic are framed as restricted motion patterns needing restoration, not as reasons to stop training. Most athletes walk in, get adjusted, and are back in the gym the same day.

CrossFit Injuries

How We Actually Treat

Treatment at Vanguard Chiropractic is three layered: restore mechanical motion, release soft-tissue restriction, give the patient something to take home. No two visits are identical, and nothing is prescriptive. We work with what your body shows up with that day.

Diversified & HVLA AdjustmentHigh-velocity, low-amplitude manipulation of restricted spinal segments and peripheral joints. The classic "crack": precise, targeted, evidence-based.
Pin-and-Stretch Soft TissueTargeted release of hypertonic muscle and fascial restriction. We use pin-and-stretch specifically (not Active Release Technique / ART, that's a certified trademark we don't hold).
Exercise & Self-Care PrescriptionA specific homework exercise or stretch tied to your pattern. Small, simple, repeatable. The adjustment gets you moving; the exercise keeps you there.
Red-Flag ScreeningEvery visit includes a screen for red-flag signs (neurological deficit, cauda equina, fracture, cancer history, etc.). When you need an MRI, ortho referral, or emergency care, we say so.

No long-term plans $40 per visit, flat Walk-in or book Brookside, midtown Tulsa All ages welcome Same-day visits

Common Questions

How much does a chiropractor cost in Tulsa?

At Vanguard, every visit is $40 flat, cash or card. No subscription, no long-term care plan, no surprise charges. The $40 covers the assessment, the adjustment, any soft-tissue work that day, and your homework exercise. Tulsa-area pricing elsewhere typically runs $60 to $150 per visit, often inside a 12 or 24-visit package you're asked to commit to up front.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in during open hours and you'll be seen. If you prefer to book, the Jane App scheduler at vanguardchiro.janeapp.com shows live availability. Most walk-in patients are adjusted within 20 minutes of arriving.

What conditions do you actually treat?

Mechanical musculoskeletal complaints of the spine and peripheral joints: back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches, shoulder dysfunction, hip and knee pain, sports injuries, work injuries, prenatal and postpartum care, pediatric care, and the full spectrum of chronic pain complaints. Every category listed above on this page links to specific information for that condition. For non-musculoskeletal issues (asthma, digestive problems, autism, ear infections, fertility, cancer, detox), chiropractic is not the right tool and we'll tell you that directly.

Do you treat pregnant women and kids?

Yes. Dr. Forward adjusts pregnant patients through all three trimesters using pelvic balancing and sacral techniques specific to pregnancy. He is not Webster certified. We use a different approach that works well for most prenatal patients. For pediatrics, we treat all ages including newborns, with parent-guided gentle pressure appropriate to the child's size and developmental stage.

Do you take insurance?

No. Vanguard is cash-pay only. We don't file insurance or provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. The tradeoff is transparent pricing ($40), zero paperwork, and appointments that aren't capped by what an insurance company will authorize. For patients who'd rather use insurance, we can refer you to insurance-billing chiropractors in the Tulsa area.

How long does a typical visit take?

First visit: about 30 minutes (paperwork, exam, first adjustment). Follow-up visits: 10 to 15 minutes most of the time. We're efficient because the model is built around frequent, short visits rather than rare long ones.

What should I expect on my first visit?

You'll fill out a short intake form, Dr. Forward will walk you through your history and do a focused orthopedic and neurological exam, and if everything looks appropriate for chiropractic care you'll get adjusted that day. If anything on the exam suggests you need imaging, a specialist, or urgent care instead, we'll tell you that and help coordinate the next step.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?

For the patient population we treat (mechanical musculoskeletal complaints, appropriately screened for red flags), yes. A 2017 systematic review in the Annals of Internal Medicine found spinal manipulation provided similar pain relief to NSAIDs with a comparable or better safety profile. Serious adverse events from cervical manipulation specifically are rare. Estimated at 1 in several hundred thousand to several million adjustments. We screen every patient and defer manipulation when it isn't indicated.

How often should I come in?

It depends entirely on your condition. Acute back pain that's new in the last week may respond to 2 to 3 visits over 5 to 10 days. Chronic recurring patterns may need once-every-two-week visits during flare-ups and monthly maintenance otherwise. Many patients come in only when something flares. There is no required schedule at Vanguard Chiropractic. You come in when your body tells you to.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. Oklahoma is a direct-access state for chiropractic. You can see a chiropractor without a referral from a primary care physician or insurance company. Walk in or book online and you're in.

Where exactly are you located?

Vanguard Chiropractic is at 1334 East 41st Street, Tulsa OK 74105. In Brookside, midtown Tulsa. Easy access from 41st Street, Peoria, Riverside, and downtown. Free parking on site.
